Tour Plan

8:00 AM – Hotel Pickup in Dhaka

Your Sonargaon day tour begins at 8:00 AM with a convenient hotel pickup from any location within Dhaka city. Our professional guide and experienced driver will greet you in a clean, air-conditioned vehicle, ensuring a comfortable journey from the capital to the historic town of Sonargaon. During the drive, which typically takes around 1.5 hours depending on traffic, your guide will share insights into the history of Sonargaon, once the medieval administrative and commercial capital of Bengal. As one of the most popular Dhaka to Sonargaon tours, this ride serves as a great introduction to what’s to come.

Visit Banglar Tajmahal

Your first stop is the striking Banglar Tajmahal, a full-scale replica of the original Taj Mahal in Agra, India. Built by a local filmmaker, this structure has become a popular site for locals and tourists alike, offering a unique opportunity to admire Mughal-style architecture within Bangladesh. Though not an ancient monument, its scale and intricate design make it a fascinating location to visit. It's especially popular among those on a Sonargaon photography tour, with its marble-like exterior, symmetrical gardens, and serene atmosphere providing a picturesque setting for your travel album.

Explore the Historic Goaldi Mosque

Next, you'll visit one of the oldest remaining structures in the region—the Goaldi Mosque, located in the quiet village of Goaldi. This 16th-century mosque is a rare surviving example of Sultanate-era architecture, built during the reign of Alauddin Husain Shah. Despite its age, the mosque has retained its unique terracotta decorations and square design. This peaceful site offers a quiet contrast to the more populated parts of Sonargaon and is a significant highlight of any historical Sonargaon tour. Surrounded by greenery and farmland, Goaldi Mosque gives visitors a powerful sense of Sonargaon’s spiritual and cultural heritage.

Walk Through Panam Nagar

From there, you'll be taken to Panam Nagar, also known as Panam City—an abandoned town that once housed wealthy Hindu merchants during the colonial era. This area consists of a single straight road lined with 52 beautiful but crumbling mansions built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These buildings reflect a unique blend of Mughal, British, and local architectural styles. Walking through Panam Nagar feels like stepping into a forgotten past, as nature slowly reclaims the once-grand structures. This is one of the most photogenic parts of the tour and a must-visit for those interested in a Sonargaon heritage site tour or anyone on a Sonargaon architecture tour. Your guide will explain the history behind the decline of this city and how it became a preserved yet fading testament to Sonargaon’s golden age of trade and culture.

Visit the Sonargaon Folk Art and Craft Museum

Next, you'll explore the Sonargaon Folk Art and Craft Museum, housed in the historic Sardar Bari mansion. This museum offers a rich display of traditional Bangladeshi crafts, including nakshi kantha (embroidered quilts), pottery, musical instruments, masks, and more. It’s a vital stop for understanding the folk traditions that have shaped rural life across the country. The museum also hosts occasional artisan workshops, festivals, and live craft demonstrations. This Sonargaon museum visit is a favorite among travelers looking for a deeper cultural connection through a curated Sonargaon cultural tour. The setting itself—within a preserved mansion with tranquil gardens—adds to the charm and authenticity of this unique experience.

Lunch at a Local Restaurant

After exploring Sonargaon’s rich history and cultural landmarks, it's time to enjoy a traditional Bangladeshi lunch at a local restaurant. The menu typically includes flavorful dishes such as rice, lentils, seasonal vegetables, chicken or beef curry, and local fish. For many, this meal becomes a highlight of the Sonargaon day trip from Dhaka, offering a break from sightseeing and a chance to savor the tastes of rural Bangladesh. Clean and comfortable, the dining environment provides a restful setting to recharge for the next portion of your day.

Boat Ride to Nuner Tek Village

Following lunch, your guide will take you to the edge of the Meghna River to begin a peaceful Sonargaon river cruise tour. You'll board a country boat—a traditional wooden vessel used by locals—to journey toward Nuner Tek, a charming fishing village nestled along the riverside. The ride offers sweeping views of the river and surrounding greenery, making this part of the tour a favorite for anyone seeking a Meghna River day trip or river sightseeing from Dhaka. As you reach Nuner Tek, you'll have a chance to interact with local fishermen, observe traditional fishing methods, and explore the rustic lifestyle of this humble yet resilient riverside community. This authentic Sonargaon village tour provides cultural depth and a peaceful contrast to the architectural sites you visited earlier in the day. It’s a highlight for those on a Sonargaon river boat tour or a traveler looking for something beyond the typical heritage sites.

4:00 PM – Begin Return Journey to Dhaka

As your full day of discovery winds down, you’ll head back to Dhaka in your air-conditioned vehicle. The return trip gives you time to reflect on everything you’ve experienced—from ancient mosques and crumbling mansions to vibrant craft museums and river village life. Your guide will be happy to answer any remaining questions or offer tips for other exciting Dhaka day tours you might want to explore during your stay in the capital. Whether you came for the history, architecture, culture, or river life, this guided tour to Sonargaon leaves you with a profound appreciation for the diversity and depth of Bangladesh’s heritage.

5:00 PM – Drop-Off at Your Dhaka City Hotel

You’ll be dropped off at your Dhaka hotel by 5:00 PM, marking the end of a truly unforgettable Sonargaon day excursion. Sonargaon Day Tour

This was the first of two visits with Siraj from Cittagang visits. Much obliged Siraj, and our driver for an incredible day. We went to Sonargaon and saw notable structures as well as truly fun children who were so agreeable and quick to meet me; Panem which was astounding and had such an intriguing outing across the waterway to a little town, again to be met with invitingness and graciousness. An incredible outing - especially when trapped in unbelievable downpour returning with transports being washed under the bridge flood pipes, prompting more noteworthy blockage than expected. try not to pass up on the chance to go out traveling like this: it gives you such knowledge into this captivating nation and its kin..

Great trip with lots to see!

This company was really wonderful to work with! I booked the wrong day originally; they were very nice about it and helped me rebook. Also, I am a solo female traveler so was a bit nervous and they put me completely at ease. I had two guides and a driver who were all professional and fun to be with all day. I felt safe the entire time! The sites were beautiful, especially the ancient city. If going to the fishing village, do not forget to bring candy for women and children. The entire trip was enjoyable and very professional. ** as a visiter, you will be asked to take photos with many locals. If you are uncomfortable with this, I would mention it to the guide..

Huge variety and diversity

This was the first of two tours with Jafar from Taabu tours. Thanks Jafar, and our driver for a great day. We went to Sonargaon and saw not only historic buildings but also really fun kids who were so friendly and keen to meet me; Panem that was amazing and had such an interesting excursion across the river to a small village, again to be met with friendliness and courtesy. A great day out - particularly when caught in unreal rain coming back with buses being washed under the overpass overflow pipes, leading to greater congestion than usual. don't miss the opportunity to go on a trip like this: it gives you such an insight into this fascinating country and its people...
