Relax and enjoy the scenic drive through the city as you prepare to visit Vientiane’s most famous and hidden treasures.
Visit Wat Si Saket
The first stop on your journey is Wat Si Saket, one of the oldest and most iconic temples in Vientiane. Built in the early 19th century, this Buddhist temple is renowned for its unique architecture, with thousands of Buddha statues lining the temple walls. As you wander through the temple’s peaceful courtyard, your guide will share fascinating stories about its history and cultural significance. Learn about the Lao people's devotion to Buddhism and how this temple serves as a vital center for worship and reflection.
COPE Visitor Centre
After your visit to Wat Si Saket, you’ll head to the COPE Visitor Centre, an essential stop to learn about the ongoing challenges faced by the Lao people due to unexploded ordnance (UXO) left over from the Vietnam War. The center provides an emotional and educational experience about the legacy of war and the efforts made by local and international organizations to clear these dangerous remnants. You’ll learn about COPE’s work in supporting victims of UXO accidents, including rehabilitation programs and their impact on the community. The exhibits are interactive and provide a powerful insight into Laos' journey toward recovery.
Explore Ho Pra Keo
Next, your tour continues to Ho Pra Keo (Wat Ho Phakeo), a former royal temple and one of the most significant religious sites in Laos. Once home to the revered Emerald Buddha, this temple is a beautiful example of classical Lao architecture. The serene temple features intricate carvings, stunning murals, and detailed stone sculptures that reflect the deep connection between Buddhism and Laos' royal history. Explore the peaceful grounds, take in the tranquil atmosphere, and hear the fascinating history of the Emerald Buddha and its journey through Southeast Asia.
Visit Pha That Luang
One of the highlights of your Vientiane city tour is Pha That Luang, the Great Sacred Stupa, which is the most important Buddhist monument in Laos. Standing 45 meters tall and shimmering in gold, this massive stupa is an enduring symbol of Laos’ national pride, unity, and Buddhist identity. As you walk around the stupa, your guide will explain its rich history, symbolism, and the important role it plays in Lao culture. Discover the sacred relics housed inside and hear about the spiritual significance of this monumental structure. Take your time to appreciate the breathtaking views from the stupa’s grounds and reflect on the spiritual serenity that surrounds this sacred site.
Lunch Break
After a morning filled with cultural exploration, it’s time for a break. Enjoy a delicious traditional Lao lunch at a local restaurant.
Patuxai Monument
After lunch, you’ll visit the Patuxai Monument, often called the “Victory Monument” or the “Laos Arc de Triomphe.” Built in honor of those who fought for Laos’ independence from French colonial rule, the Patuxai is a stunning fusion of Laotian and French architecture. Standing 49 meters tall, it is an imposing structure adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures that represent the spirit of independence and the Lao people’s resilience. You can even climb to the top of the monument for spectacular panoramic views of Vientiane, the Mekong River, and the surrounding countryside. Your guide will share the monument’s history and significance, providing a deeper understanding of its cultural importance.
Visit Vat That Khao
Next, you will head to Vat That Khao, one of Vientiane’s lesser-known but historically significant temples. The temple is home to a sacred relic of Lord Buddha, making it a vital place of worship for the local community. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and an impressive golden stupa, Vat That Khao is a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Take in the tranquil surroundings and learn about the temple's role in Lao Buddhism. Your guide will explain its importance as a site of pilgrimage and a symbol of spiritual peace for the Lao people.
Buddha Park
After visiting Vat That Khao, your tour will take you to the fascinating Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan), located approximately 25 kilometers southeast of Vientiane. This surreal park is home to over 200 large statues of Buddhist and Hindu deities, mythical creatures, and figures from Lao folklore. Created by the artist Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat, the park offers an eccentric and whimsical experience, where you can marvel at towering statues of Buddha, Hindu gods, and surreal creatures, all set against the backdrop of the beautiful Lao countryside. Vientiane’s marvels

This private tour was well organized. The guide Chansay was competent and welcoming. The tour was flexible and could be adapted to the participant. Everything was worth seeing. The chauffeur was reliable and the bus comfortable. A walk on Friendship bridge #1 was interesting and appreciated, but could not cross to Thailand my visa being single entry only. This activity a must when visiting Vientiane!.
